NEW YORK The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce has named New York City clean tech company EcoLogic Solutions, Inc. (www.ecologicsolutions) as its 2013 “Green Business of the Year.”
At the annual MCC Awards Breakfast, the Chamber lauded EcoLogic Solutions, a manufacturer and distributor of environmentally preferable cleaning products and technologies, for its 100% green product line, sustainable business practices, and for doubling revenues in each of the last five years.
CEO Anselm Doering founded EcoLogic in 2001 after reading a poster in a New York Thruway rest stop restroom stating, “Proud to be cleaned by Lysol.” “I couldn’t understand why anyone would brag about using a known poison to clean,” said the environmental entrepreneur with two decades of experience in green business. The answer: commercial users didn’t have many alternatives.
So that afternoon, Doering sketched out plans for a company that would provide a full line of industrial-grade, all-natural, bio-based cleaning chemicals and technologies for restaurants, office buildings, hotels, hospitals, schools, and other commercial users. “Including rest stop restrooms!” said Doering.
Since then, Doering and his team have grown EcoLogic Solutions from a one-man business operating out of his basement into a multimillion-dollar firm with 26 employees across the country and an all-star client list that includes Whole Foods Market, Chipotle, Amtrak, conEdison, NBC/Universal, and the Statue of Liberty, to name a few.
For Doering, the Chamber award is more than a personal honor – it’s inspiration to continue to improve upon “business as usual.”
“When I saw that poster in 2001, I thought, ‘we can do better,’” said Doering. “We can offer better products and we can offer a better way of doing business. We can not only benefit bottom lines, but workers and the planet as well. Business doesn’t have to be a zero-sum game. It can and should be a practice that lifts entire communities.”
EcoLogic Solutions was also applauded for its ECA (Electro-Chemical Activation) technology, machines that allow users to make their own highly effective cleaners and sanitizers using only tap water, salt, and electricity. The company has recently installed ECA technology for a list of clients that includes Whole Foods Markets, Amtrak, and the McCormick Center in Chicago.
The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce selects an annual “Green Business of the Year” from more than 100,000 companies that do business in Manhattan. Past winners include Action Carting Environmental Services and Green Apple Cleaners.
