NY Times: Sandy Soaks Green Business by Anselm Doering and Franz Wisner

After the rain had stopped and the winds had died down, IceStone president and CEO Dal LaMagna thought his countertop manufacturing company had escaped the worst of Hurricane Sandy. And at first glance, the road leading to the IceStone manufacturing facility in the Brooklyn Navy Yard didn’t appear to have suffered major flooding.

Mr. LaMagna’s hope faded when he saw that IceStone’s new, $21,000 garage door had been ripped open by Sandy’s winds.

“I was pretty depressed,” Mr. LaMagna said. “I thought we had dodged a bullet, only to find out that we didn’t. Our factory had been completely flooded.”
